The Aesthetics of Repair: Black Love Matters1-Ian

Ian | Acrylic paint, cut canvas, spray paint, markers, on canvas, 84”hx67”w, 2017-18

The Aesthetics of Repair: Black Love Matters1-Ian, is very similar to the painting, Kirby. It uses the element of repetition, that stenciling affords, to enhance the edginess of the scene – multiple figures standing over a body stretched out on the floor beneath them. This work is also defined by the repetition of shapes in the background made by tracing with different color markers. Other intersecting lines are made with paint brush.
